With his fluffyness and chillness factor, the koala wins everyone's heart. In January and February 2020, the world watched helplessly as forest fires raged through Australia. More than 12 million hectares of forest and bushland went up in flames and 60,000 koalas were killed or displaced. Koalas have been threatened with extinction ever since. WWF-Australia has developed a five-year plan to turn the tide and double the koala population by 2050, mainly by restoring and expanding protected habitats.
